We asked Kirby Walls about their experience working with reclaimed wood and some trends they see up and coming in the custom home building industry.

(AW): What are some of your favorite products from Anthology Woods and why?

(KW): Anthology Woods supplied gorgeous reclaimed, clear, tongue and groove siding for a custom home project. More than 50% of the 7,000 sqft home was clad with the redwood siding.

How important is the reclaimed and/or sustainable aspect of materials for you and your clients?

Our clients, being from Northern California, were extremely conscious about using a material they were familiar with and making sure it was sustainably sourced. They have lived in the redwood forests and wanted to do their part to make sure the forest remains as they remember, for generations to come.

What are some trends you see with wood flooring and paneling?

Where we build, in Central Texas, we see many well-known architects straying from the years long standard of heavy, masonry exteriors. A shift towards lighter wood cladding is certainly gaining ground.

Do you have any tips for installing and building with reclaimed wood flooring and paneling?

We utilized a diagonal rain screen system behind the vertical tongue and groove siding to ensure even drying of the cladding. This will prevent premature aging and cupping.
